We joined a gym a few years ago. We went quite frequently to begin with. But then it was too hot during the summer (which in Texas lasts forever) plus it was overbooked. Sometimes the only machines available were these awful stair climbers that required more coordination than I have.
We had a treadmill before at home. It was free and didn't last long at all. We used it while it lasted though. The problem with treadmills is that it takes too long. Low impact. We knew from brief attempts on the Elliptical at the gym that it totally kicks our buttocks. It's tough. High impact.
We went shopping yesterday and found a reasonably high end elliptical floor model that was discounted. Another couple was waiting to snatch it up if we decided not to get it. The best part about it is that it folds up when you aren't using it - going from HUGE to merely LARGE.
Wish us luck that this is what we'll need to get in shape - finally.
