I should have named it Good Lucky. Last night, when we stopped to pick up a bigger box for a larger nursery, we came home to a dead kitten. Either Lucky didn't like to hang with the larger kittens or they avoided Lucky but either way, it appears that when Mama Cleo came in for another feeding, she accidentally squashed Lucky against the side of their box.
I'm not looking forward to telling my step-daughter tonight.
I try to tell myself that nature knows best. I saved a rejected kitten before. It led a miserable life with never ending health problems.
Silent now is the loudest meow from the tiniest kitten that I already knew so well. Rest in peace Lucky.
