Not!
These are individual animals fighting each other for survival. They are already growing tiny little claws and they use those claws to fight for prime feeding spots. Most of the kittens have little bloody scratches on their tiny nostrils already. It is a bit discouraging.
Hopefully it’s normal.
Mama Cleo is looking like her usual self. At first, every small squeak out of the box would send her running. Now, she gazes at it and I imagine her thinking “What now? I just fed you guys!”
Her box was an old covered litter box that we had replaced with a new automatically cleaning one. (Save your money-don’t buy automatic.) We cleaned the old box out and lined it with a towel. She did not like it one bit. We spent the whole evening taking the kittens back to it and she would grab them and try to take them back to her first nursery.
She had the kittens in my kitchen. One of the lower cabinets is very deep. We knew this would be an appealing spot so we lined it with newspaper and propped the door open. Now the newspaper is gone and the door is closed. It doesn’t stop her from pawing at the door (bam bam bam) trying to get it open. Apparently once a litter box, always a litter box, and she doesn’t want to raise her kids there.
It will be interesting to locate the kittens when we get home tonight. She’ll have all day to come up with something.
